Traditional X-rays involve using films that have a special coating that is sensitive to X-ray exposure. When the X-rays come in contact with dense material, such as bone, the X-ray will appear brighter and whiter in nature because the X-rays aren’t able to pass through as well.

What Are Digital X-Rays?

Digital X-rays are a method of taking X-rays that involves transmitting X-ray images to a computer in digital form instead of on an actual paper film. Digital X-rays offer a number of benefits to Dr. Kishore and Dr. Ummareddy’s Dallas patients. These benefits include:

• Reduced Radiation Exposure: Using a digital radiography system reduces radition exposure to a patient by as much as 80 percent when compared with traditional X-rays. This minimizes radiation as much as possible to the patient.

• Enhanced Diagnosis: Digital X-rays enable the dentists to further manipulate the images by “zooming” in on potential areas of decay and enhancing them whenever possible. These images can also be stored and saved. The images can then be easily retrieved on the patient’s next visit for comparison.

• Time Savings: Developing X-ray films use to take anywhere from five to eight minutes to develop. Digital images develop almost instantly, however. This equals a time-savings to the dentists’ patients.
